LINE WORK

ILLUSTRATION IS VISUAL STORYTELLING, A WAY TO CAPTURE THE SURREAL FORM in which THE CONSCIOUS + SUBCONSCIOUS EXPERIENCE UNFOLDS.

I USE DRAWING & PAINTING AS a visual translation of my inner dialogue.

illustration offers a way to capture an otherwise ephemeral emotional moment in time, giving it a canvas on which to stand still.

The narrative most constant in my work is that of the feminine human experience: translations of joy + passion or pain + grief.

drawing is my preferred outlet to translate difficult emotions, dream imagery, or to loosen up my grip and move into the surreal realm.

great influences on my style over the years have been the works of hilma af kilnt, salvador dalí, lee bontecou, alphonsé mucha, georgia o'keeffe, & frederick franck, among many.

" While seeing/drawing any face, one sees into the endless past of its ancestry, into the very center of human experience - of existence as such: the one ineffable mystery.

To draw is to let the perception on my retina be affirmed by the hand that notes down in obedience. it is not in an way 'self-expression.' it is letting that which i draw express what (she) is, through me. "
